Wendy Williams Secures Celebrity Attorney Joe Tacopina For Guardianship Battle

Wendy Williams has secured one of the entertainment industry’s most in-demand attorneys, as the former talk show host has hired Joe Tacopina to represent her in her current guardianship battle.

During an April 3rd interview with NewsNation’s Banfield, Tacopina confirmed, “Yes, I am representing her, I’m her personal attorney right now. I will be entering the case one way or another, but it’s a convoluted process…the last thing they want to do is see my face in that courtroom,” he added with a smirk.

Tacopina, who recently secured a legal victory for A$AP Rocky in his gun assault trial against A$AP Relli, is no stranger to high-profile cases. His client roster includes Swizz Beatz, Ne-Yo, Meek Mill, YG, Alex Rodriguez, Michael Jackson, and even Donald Trump. He revealed on the 2 Angry Men podcast in March that Williams personally reached out to him after he watched the Tubi documentary Saving Wendy. Calling her situation “a true injustice,” Tacopina said, “Murderers have more freedom than Wendy.”

Williams has been under court-appointed legal guardian Sabrina Morrissey’s control since May 2022, a situation that has sparked protests outside her assisted living facility. Though recently passing a capacity test after being labeled “cognitively impaired,” Williams’ movements and finances remain restricted. Her healthcare advocate, Ginalisa Monterroso, told People, “She can’t vote, marry, or decide the doctors she’d like to use or what friends can visit her.” Adding, “Somebody in prison has more rights than a person put under a guardianship.”

Williams has previously pointed to her son’s excessive spending from her Wells Fargo account as a key factor in her guardianship, as the bank froze her assets, prompting the courts to intervene amid her ongoing health struggles.
