After going at it alone for most of her solo career, one of my favorite underrated independent pop artists Dawn Richard is back with a new label, album, and music video, and Miss Thing is serving the kids as usual with the visuals in the video for Bussifame.
In a press release, Richard discussed the meaning behind the song’s title Second Line: An Electro Revival. “The definition of a second line in New Orleans is a celebration of someone’s homecoming. In death and in life, we celebrate the impact of a person’s legacy through dance and music. I’m celebrating the death of old views in the industry. The death of boxes and limits. I’m celebrating the homecoming of the Future. The homecoming to the new wave of artists. The emergence of all the King Creoles to come. This is our revival.”
The futuristic fashions, the simplicity of the visuals, and intricate choreography will have you bussing a move in no time.
Dawn has never been afraid to push the boundaries of pop, fashion, and visual art, which makes me 1000 percent happy that she finally secured a label.
I also cannot wait to hear what she has in store for us with her new music.
Dawn’s album Second Line drops on April 30 via Merge Records.
