Video: Björk - Atopos

One of my all-time favorite experimental electronic music performers Björk has unleashed the visual for Atopos, the first single off her forthcoming tenth album Fossora.

Directed by Viðar Logi, we find the masked singer, Indonesian experimental duo Gabber Modus Operandi DJ Kasimin and a six-piece bass clarinet section performing at a post-apocalyptic, futuristic molded rave, as the Icelandic singer emotes the following lyrics:

"If we don't grow outwards towards love/We'll implode inwards towards destruction/If my plant doesn't reach towards you/There's internal erosion towards all/Pursuing the light too hard/is a form of hiding"

In regards to the song, Björk wrote on Twitter that the track is “kinda like Fossora’s passport,” and that her latest body of work was partly inspired by the Covid pandemic and the online lockdown raves.

The title of the album is a word that Björk made up—the feminine of “fossore,” which means “digger, delver, ditcher,” as she put it in press materials.

30+ years in the game and still Björk is truly one of a kind. Fossora drops on September 30th.
