HBO has unleashed the teaser for The Last of Us, an American post-apocalyptic series that's based on the popular 2013 video game of the same name.
Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse across the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.
Starring Pedro Pascal (“The Mandalorian”) and Bella Ramsey (“Game of Thrones”) as Joel and Ellie, respectively, the series also stars Gabriel Luna (Terminator: Dark Fate) as Tommy, the brother of Joel, Storm Reid, Anna Torv, Jeffrey Pierce, Nick Offerman, Merle Dandridge, Nico Parker, Murray Bartlett and Con O’Neil. Video game voice actors Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson will also have roles in the series, which is set to arrive in 2023.
With all the video game adaptations that we've gotten over the past few decades, I have to say based on the teaser, I feel that we may finally have a video game adaptation that they might have gotten right.
Should it end up doing well, I have a feeling that we may see TV execs taking more of a TLOU approach and less of a Resident Evil on Netflix approach, because we all know how the latter turned out.
