All good things must unfortunately come to an end. Less than a month after announcing that the upcoming third season will be it’s last, FX has unleashed the trailer for Pose, and let’s just say y’all better have plenty of tissues handy.
“This season will be filled with all of the love, the laughter, and tears that you have come to expect from the Evangelista family,” show co-creator and executive producer Steven Canals said when he announced the show was coming to an end. “I, along with my television collaborators, never intended on changing the television landscape. I simply wanted to tell an honest story about family, resilience and love.”
The final season was chopped down to seven episodes with the two-hour season premiere airing on May 2 and the season finale airing on June 6, all on FX.
The new season jumps to 1994, three years ahead of where season two ended. Here, we learn that Angel and Lil Papi, played by Indya Moore and Angel B. Curiel are still a couple. Blanca, played by Mj Rodriguez, has a new job as a nurse’s aide — she seems to be assisting Sandra Bernhard’s Judy Kubrak.
Pray Tell, played by the Emmy award-winning Billy Porter, will not only reminisce on some of the better days of ballroom, but we will also see him struggle with his health as a result of his HIV diagnosis. It seems that Ricky Wintour, played by Dyllon Burnside will also make a return, and from the looks of the trailer, he may be thrown out of his home.
Meanwhile, AIDS continues to wipe out many of our queer and trans Americans, and the gang takes their fight for equality to the streets. We also see a shift in the evolution of ballroom, with the icons of that community trying their hardest to protect ballroom’s legacy.
Jeremy Pope makes a cameo at a ball, and from what I am hearing he will play Blanca’s love interest. I was afraid we wouldn’t get those ballroom scenes we love in the final season due to Covid restrictions, but it looks like the children will be sashaying and shantaying for their trophies after all.
In addition to Emmy and Tony winner Porter and Rodriguez, Pose stars Dominique Jackson, Indya Moore, Ryan Jamaal Swain, Hailie Sahar, Angel Bismark Curiel, Dyllón Burnside, and Sandra Bernhard.
