Since the beginning of the Miss Rona lock down, it’s no secret that since many people were left unemployed that there has been a huge uptick in porn consumption.
People who wouldn’t have done porn before the pandemic have all of a sudden joined Onlyfans, and speaking of which, Onlyfans (which doesn’t specifically showcase porn, but has become popular because of it), Justforfans and Pornhub have seen a rise in subscriptions.
With that being said Breaking Glass Pictures is putting together a documentary called Pornstar Pandemic: The Guys, which will highlight how some of your favorite male adult film stars are coping mentally, physically and financially through this crisis.
The doc features interviews with three of the top gay porn stars in the industry – Pierce Paris, Dante Colle, DeAnjelo Jackson, newcomers Elijah Wilde and Jack Loft, as well as commentary from director Alter Sin, and publicist Alex Lecomte. Fun fact: Lecomte and Sin are associate producers on the self-produced film
The doc features the actors during their daily activities, along with their personal thoughts on the current state of the industry and their own roles in it, how the shutdown has affected their lives and livelihood, and what’s next once everyone can return to work.
Here’s what director Edward “EJ” James had to say about the project:
“The impetus behind this documentary was the fact that audiences rarely see behind-the-scenes of what adult performers do when they are not in front of the camera,” James said of the project according to AVN. “Their lives are often more similar to the average person than many think and we wanted to explore that, especially during our current situation. We’re all in this together and it’s important to highlight that fact.”
I think it’s absolutely great that a documentary is willing to cover this subject, since the sex industry is always hit the hardest when it comes to situations regarding a pandemic or a viral outbreak. Our government looks down on sex work, even though they have no problem partaking in such matters behind closed doors.
If you have the time, Reuters did an interesting article on how the LA porn industry came up with it’s own testing system during the HIV/AIDS epidemic, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the porn industry winds up figuring out a way to get us out of this mess.
