Esther is back in the prequel to the hit film that is one of my personal favorite horror films of the 2010s. Personally I don't get why we're getting a prequel when we know the outcome of her character in the original (I get it - money talks), I'm going to watch it when it comes out next month because the trailer looks pretty good.
Titled Orphan First Kill, Isabelle Fuhrman is back as Esther, this time she escapes the Estonian mental hospital mentioned in the original film and flees to America by impersonating the missing daughter of a wealthy family.
Even though those of us who saw the original are well aware of the jaw dropping twist, while watching the trailer I was fascinated by all the camera tricks they used to make Fuhrman look younger without resorting to de-aging special effects.
Directed by William Brent Bell (The Boy) from a script by David Coggeshall (Scream TV Series), the film also stars Julia Stiles and Rossif Sutherland.
Orphan First Kill will be available in select theaters, Digital and Paramount+ on August 19.
