TRAILER TRASH: LEGENDARY

Earlier this year it was announced that new streaming service HBO Max would be launching a brand new voguing competition series called Legendary. I was particularly excited because growing up in New York and knowing so many legendary queens who have walked a ball or 10, and with the success of Pose on FX, the ballroom scene was finally getting the recognition it deserves within the mainstream.

I will say that Legendary didn’t come without it’s share of controversy. Ballroom fans were in an uproar when they learned that actress Jameela Jamil would be joining the panel as a judge, in which shortly after she came out as queer.

Now HBO Max, which launches next month has given us a glimpse at what we can expect from the show in the form of a sickening new trailer. The concept for Legendary is as follows: The show will pit eight houses against one another in a series of battles that include voguing as well as a variety of other categories.

Dashaun Wesley, known to many as Dashaun Lanvin, appears as the MC while ballroom icon Leiomy Maldonado, will be one of the judges. And if you really want me to take you back, both competed as part of the dance group Vogue Evolution on America’s Best Dance Crew. Other judges filling out the panel include Megan Thee Stallion and Jamil as well as stylist Law Roach — who you all may remember was a judge on America’s Next Top Model.

Legendary is set to pop, dip and spin it’s way into HBO Max consumer’s homes on May 27, which is the official launch date of the streaming service. Subscribers can also expect every Batman and Superman movie from the last 40 years, as well as Sex and the CityThe MatrixThe Lord of the RingsThe Wizard of Oz and more. HBO originals like InsecureWatchmenEuphoriaThe Sopranos and The Wire — some of which are currently streamable for free on HBO GO or HBO Now — will also be available.
