Move over Drag Race, because you've got some much-needed competition heading your way. Queer streaming platform Revry has announced their own Spanish-language drag competition series entitled Drag Latina, and I am here for all of it.
What makes Drag Latina different from RuPaul's Drag Race is that it will feature Latin queens from diverse multinational backgrounds such as Cuba. Mexico, Guatemala and Colombia representing their identity, their culture and their country.
Each week the queens will show off the fiercest runway looks and performances for the judges, dive deep into personal stories that define each performer, lip sync competitions, and contestant eliminations until one is crowned the winner of Drag Latina.
Hosted by Mexican singer and TV actress Ninel Conde with singer Fedro as mentor and judge, the first episode of Drag Latina will air on October 16th around the world on all Revry channels with the finale airing on November 20, 2022.
As for the 10 queens competing, they are: Afrika Mendiola, Anika Leclere, Amalara Sofia, Chichi Fuera, Leyla Edwards, Mariah Spanic, Sunel Molina, Valeria Sparx, Venus Carangi and Vicky Chavarria.
I love that other networks are creating their own drag shows, because as a fan of the art of drag I've always wanted to see different interpolations of the skill represented on TV.
In fact, I have a few ideas for a drag competition series of my own that I'm working on getting off the ground that I believe people who love drag will enjoy.
