TRAILER TRASH: B-BOY BLUES

The teaser trailer to B-Boy Blues has finally arrived, and after watching the trailer I’m excited now more than ever to see this film.

It stars Timothy Richardson, Ledisi, Brandee Evans, Broderick Hunter, Marquise Vilson, Heather B, Bryan’t and newcomer Thomas Mackie as Raheim.

B-Boy Blues follows the tumultuous relationship between Mitchell Crawford, a 27-year old journalist, and Raheim Rivers, a 21-year old bicycle messenger and B-boy (banjee boy). They meet in a gay bar in Greenwich Village in the summer of 1993. The B-boy hangs out on street corners, cool and menacing. Raheim is the third B-boy in Mitchell’s life, but underneath the former’s tough exterior, Raheim is smart and talented and a loving parent to his five-year-old son. But Raheim has a violent streak.

B-Boy Blues, which was written by James Earl Hardy spawned a series that has sold millions worldwide and remains a staple within the black LGBTQ+/Same Gender Loving community.

This book changed my life as a teenager growing up in NYC in the 90s. Hopefully the film will do the same for the next generation of queer POC trying to navigate through this tough thing called life.

No word on when the highly anticipated film will be released, but the film is scheduled to premiere at the American Black Film Festival.

Check out the trailer to the film, which was directed by Jussie Smollett below…
