Timbaland Explains Apparent Antisemitic Drake Taunt Over UMG Legal Battle

Timbaland took to social media to clarify his alleged antisemitic taunt at Drake over his legal filing against Universal Music Group.

Last week, the producer came under fire for posting what appeared to be an antisemitic image in response to rumors that Drizzy is looking to sue the music giant for $2 billion.

In an Instagram comment, Timbo shared a GIF of a white man with a large nose and a beard, which many took as an antisemitic caricature aimed at Drake’s Jewish heritage.

While the Toronto rapper didn’t publicly respond, eagle-eyed fans notice that he was no longer following his “Say Something” collaborator on Instagram.

In a follow-up comment over the weekend, Timbaland addressed the backlash and appeared to indicate that he meant no malice towards Drake’s religious roots.

“That head shake means let the story play out,” he wrote, referencing the fact that the allegedly antisemitic GIF he used is of a man shaking his head.

“Mal might b on to something. They say you have to destroy to rebuild!!!” he added.

Speculation surrounding a potential $2 billion lawsuit stems from comments made by Mal during a recent episode of his New Rory & Mal podcast.

Timbaland isn’t the only person to seemingly make antisemitic remarks about Drake since he accused UMG of using streaming bots and payola to artificially increase the popularity of Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us.”

Joe Budden made reference to the Canadian rapper’s Jewish heritage in an explosive rant on his self-titled podcast last week.

He said of the 6 God: “He’s a selfish, lying, manipulative sack of shit who has made enemies for 15 years, and now we’re here at the fucking boiling point. You’ve been behind the scenes being the biggest sack of shit you can possibly be.

“And he’s fucking white and he’s Jewish and he had too much dip on his chip. You have been behind the scenes hitting n-ggas’ baby moms, sending money to n-ggas’ baby moms, been sending messages to this n-gga’s wife.”

Drake has also yet to respond to Budden’s comments about his identity and heritage, though his dad Dennis Graham did fire back at the rapper-turned-podcaster.

The 70-year-old former musician wrote in an Instagram comment: “Stand down now!!!!”

He then followed up with another warning: “Joe needs to back the fuck off, this has nothing to do with him, period.”
