SZA made her film acting debut opposite Keke Palmer in One of Them Days and is looking ahead at a dream role she would like to play.

SZA has revealed that she wants to play the iconic weather mutant Storm in a feature film chronicling her origin story.
The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter — and noted cinephile — made the announcement while appearing on Jennifer Hudson's eponymous talk show to chat about her upcoming tour with her fellow Super Bowl halftime performer Kendrick Lamar and her new buddy comedy, One of Them Days. When Hudson asked about her future acting plans and noted that she could envision her in a superhero flick, SZA responded that she "would love to" play one.
"You know how Storm has an origin story? Like she comes from this whole other place where it's like the jungle," SZA said. "I think that would be so gnarly if I could be Storm [in an] origin story. I love to bring the range."
Halle Berry and Alexandra Shipp are among the stars who have played versions of the heroine (real name: Ororo Munroe) in the past.
Speaking with Hudson, SZA also named Silver Surfer as one of her favorite superheroes. "My dad, he collects first-edition comics, so he has first-edition Thor comics and Silver Surfer [comics] in the basement," she said. "So I grew up super into Marvel and DC."
SZA's love for the genre has been well documented, and it was currently on full display in her recent State Farm commercial for this year's Super Bowl. In that, she played DC's Catwoman opposite Jason Bateman's Batman — or, uh, Bate Man.
The musician also floated the idea of playing Storm while chatting with Yahoo Entertainment about the ad. And technically, she is already a part of the MCU, having performed the original track "All the Stars" with Lamar for the 2018 Black Panther soundtrack.
SZA's affection for movies has also showed up in her music, including her Quentin Tarantino–inspired song "Kill Bill" and its video, which paid homage to the 2003 film and starred none other than Kill Bill star Vivica A. Fox.
She spoke with Entertainment Weekly about her fondness for that film in 2022, revealing that she even digs its antagonist Bill, played by David Carradine. "He's super complex," she said of the character. "I feel like he doesn't understand why he did what he did. He's void of emotion, but he loved The Bride so much that he couldn't stand her to be with anyone else. That was really complex and cool to me. It's a love story."
SZA told EW that she was leaving the door open for more movie roles in a joint interview with her costar Keke Palmer for One of Them Days earlier this year. "It was wild, but I learned so much," she said of her big feature debut. "I definitely need to build my confidence as an actor. But the way that I got to look at myself from another lens that had nothing really to do with my personal expression — but still had everything to do with my personal expression — that was cool."

I haven't seen the film she did with Keke Palmer, so I can judge her on her acting just yet. However, my choice still stands on Jodie Turner-Smith playing Storm in the MCU.
