During Disney’s Investors Day a few short hours ago, the media titan announced a plethora of shows and films they have on their roster.
One of the biggest surprises is that we are getting a third installment in the Sister Act franchise.
Released in 1992, the first Sister Act reaped heavenly rewards at the box office, grossing more than $230 million worldwide. The cast included Maggie Smith, Harvey Keitel, and Kathy Najimy, A less successful sequel, Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, was released the following year. A Sister Act musical hit Broadway in 2011.
Whoopi Goldberg will be reprising her role as Deloris Van Cartier aka Sister Mary Clarence. Tyler Perry is on board to produce along with Goldberg.
While I absolutely love the first film, and I consider the sequel to be guilty pleasure (it also stars a pre-Fugees Lauryn Hill), I don’t know if we really need another Sister Act.
I’m definitely check it out when it’s released on Disney+, but it’s not high on my list of movies to check out.
