This morning ABC kicked off Disney+ Day by revealing the celebrities who will be competing on the 31st season of Dancing With The Stars.
The stars competing are: singer Jordin Sparks, ‘Real Housewives of New Jersey’ star Teresa Giudice, actress Selma Blair, Wayne Brady, Jersey Shore's Vinny Guadagnino, RuPaul's Drag Race season 2 and 3 and All Stars 3 alum Shangela, Joseph Baena, Sam Champion, Charli D’Amelio, Heidi D’Amelio, Jessie James Decker, 90210 star Trevor Donovan, Daniel Durant, Cheryl Ladd, Sex and the City star Jason Lewis, and Gabby Windey.
Speaking of Shangela, she will make herstory as the first drag queen to compete on DWTS, and will be paired up with dancer Gleb Savchenko.
The only other drag queen to ever compete as a same sex couple on a dance competition was Drag Race alum Courtney Act on the Australia edition of Dancing With The Stars.
I actually knew Shangela was going to be on DWTS days before she announced it, because my friend Davide Laffe shot her promo photo (above).
The drag superstar shared her excitement on Instagram, writing:
“I feel so honored to be the first drag entertainer to compete on the show. It’s about darn time!!! So all y’all who’ve been in my corner all these years, tell a friend! We’ve got Another One! Let’s go win this Crown… I mean, Mirrorball! I luv y’all!”
And while Shangie will be introduced to a whole new audience, the queen has been kicking it around Hollywood for a long time. In addition to appearing on Drag Race numerous times, she has appeared in A Star Is Born with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, and makes up one third of the cast of the hit HBO series We're Here (which just wrapped it's third season).
I wasn't planning on watching the new season, but I will say besides Shangela, I'm curious to see how Teresa, Vinny, Jason Lewis, Selma Blair, Jordin Sparks and Trevor Donovan does. I'm even curious to see how Joseph Baena does. For those who have no idea who he is, he's the 24-year-old son that he had from an affair with Mildred the maid.
The new season of Dancing With The Stars, which will be co-hosted by Tyra Banks and Alfonso Ribiero premieres September 19 at 8 pm on Disney+
