24 hours after news broke that Matthew Lillard's Stu Macher and Scott Foley's Roman Bridger is coming back, there are rumors of more former serial killers returning to the long-running Scream franchise.

2000's Scream 3's Scott Foley has also joined the cast of the upcoming installment, who previously played the film's Ghostface killer Roman Bridger, Neve Campbell's Sidney Prescott's half-brother. Per DanielRPK, Skeet Ulrich is also reportedly returning as Billy Loomis.

In an interview in October 2024, Lillard shared, "Listen, Stu is definitely alive," he highlighted during a surprise appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show. Although Lillard and fans continue to debate Stu's fate, the other two are very much officially dead. However, that didn't stop the previous Scream installments from using them in hallucinations or flashbacks.

Skeet Ulrich's Billy Loomis was one of the main characters of 1996's Scream, but he was later revealed he was one of the Ghostface killers, alongside his friend, Stu. He is one of the most iconic killers in the slasher, and his presence was felt throughout the film series.

He wasn't physically in the 1997 sequel but his mother, Mrs. Loomis, was there to avenge him, and there are several flashbacks of him and Sidney's relationship. The Scream reboot further highlighted Billy's importance to the series, as 2022's Scream introduces his illegitimate daughter, Melissa Barrera's Sam, who becomes the new target of the killings. Similar to her father, she also seemed to have a dark side. He also appears in several hallucinations Sam had in Scream and its 2023 sequel Scream VI.

While Skeet Ulrich's Billy Loomis has a huge importance for the franchise, it's unclear how Stu and Scott Foley's characters will impact the story. So far, there are no official details for the plot. At the same time, the new reboots reflected the first films, following the same themes and tropes as Wes Craven's original series. Scream 3's killer was Foley's Roman Bridger, which followed Sidney Prescott's return after going in isolation after the killings. Since Neve Campbell was not part of the sixth installment, the film could further delve into this aspect.

The upcoming seventh installment, which is helmed by original writer Kevin Williamson, will bring back a series of legacy characters, as well as several newcomers. Campbell is set to return, as well as Courteney Cox, who played Gale Weathers in all seven installments so far, and the two will reunite with Lillard, Foley, and Ulrich.

Scream 7 will also bring back two more characters from previous installments, Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding, who debuted in the reboots and played a big part of the "Core Four" as the siblings Mindy and Chad Meeks-Martin. There will also be a series of newcomers, including Joel McHale, Isabel May, Celeste O'Connor, Mckenna Grace, Asa Germann, Sam Rechner, Anna Camp, and Mark Consuelos.

Scream 7 hits theaters on Feb. 27, 2026.

While Deadline has confirmed Scott and Matthew are returning, it hasn't been officially confirmed that Skeet is coming back. Daniel RPK has been pretty spot on with his scoops, and ther have been times where his scoops have been incorrect. I'm just curious as to how he will be utilized in the film, especially after he appeared as Sam Carpenter's conscience in the previous two films.

Either Ghostface is using previous Scream killers in the form of AI, or we're getting a visual backstory of Billy & Stu with Maureen. They could also be reviving Kevin Williamson's original Scream 3 script where they were going with a cult of Ghostfaces, but had to scrap the script due to Columbine.

Either way all this latest casting news is pretty bonkers, and I can't wait to see what the heck they plan on pulling off with the next film.
