With RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 8 set to conclude with the crowning of either Jimbo or Kandy Muse this Friday (July 21), and with AS 9 currently filming in LA, rumors are starting to swirl as to which queens will be appearing on the upcoming season.
According to the rumors, the queens vying for the crown and $200k once more are: Angeria Paris VanMichaels (Season 14, 3rd place), Gottmik (Season 12, 3rd place), Jorgeous (Season 14, 6th/7th place), Nina West (Season 11, 6th place), Plastique Tiara (Season 11, 8th place), Roxxxy Andrews (Season 5 runner-up, All Stars 2 - top 4) Shannel (Season 1, All Stars 1), Vanessa Vanjie Mateo (Season 10 and 11).
While All Stars usually begins filming shortly after Mamaru wraps the regular season of Drag Race (which they wrapped in June), it's more than likely we won't see All Stars 9 until mid-2024, following the conclusion of season 16.
As for the format, I think it's time to retire the lip sync assassin format, keep the Fame Games idea (although I smell a case of rigga morris with the fan voting process) and let the top two queens battle it out during the lip sync battle and have the winner choose who goes home.
I have heard rumors that they are bringing back the non-elimination format from the All Winners season.
Personally speaking, I wish they would take a break from the All Stars format and utilize the past queens with a far more interesting spin-off, but since they're continue to churn these AS seasons out I hope they decide to do a Pork Chop season and have the first eliminated queens from each season battle it out.
I'd also like to see an all-trans season featuring all the transitioned queens who have appeared on Drag Race.
In the meantime, you can catch the US seasons of RuPaul's Drag Race and All Stars on Paramount+. All the various Drag Race spin-offs can be seen on WOW Presents Plus.
