ViacomCBS is set to launch it’s own streaming service in the form of Paramount+ next week, and yesterday, a series of revived and original content were announced at the investor presentation meeting that would be appearing on the network.
One of the biggest surprises was hearing that the upcoming sixth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars would be sashaying away from VH1, and heading over to the subscription-based streaming service.
In other drag news, World of Wonder, the production house that produces Drag Race and all of it’s spinoffs is launching another drag competition series called Queen of the Universe.
The series will pit drag stars from around the world against each other in a Eurovision-style singing tournament that promises “high heels, high octaves,” and “high competition” that “will blow your wig off,” according to the logline.
Queen of the Universe is definitely a show I’m excited about, and I’ve been hungry for a different type of drag competition show outside of the Drag Race formula. Clearly the new series is expanding on an idea first erected from the hit RuRuVision contest episode that aired three weeks ago on Drag Race UK.
I’m still a bit on the fence about Paramount+ (it’s getting too difficult to navigate all of these emerging and existing streaming apps), but the more news that comes out in regards to content, the more I’m getting drawn in to subscribing.
