Ru-veal Yourself! RuPaul Makes History as First Drag Wax Figure at Madame Tussauds London

Drag legend RuPaul has made his debut in Madame Tussauds London’s waxwork museum, joining the hall of fame alongside the likes of Kendall Jenner, Cara Delevingne, Victoria Beckham and Harry Styles.

On Tuesday (Feb. 6), Madame Tussauds London unveiled their new wax figure of drag icon RuPaul. Dressed in a custom-made gown by Ru’s reputable designer Zaldy, the new figure officially debuts as part of the museum’s upcoming “Fashion Runway” attraction on Friday (Feb. 9). Ru’s figure will feature prominently in the collection alongside figures of Harry Styles, Kendall Jenner, Zendaya, Victoria Beckham and more.

To celebrate the new piece, Drag Race judge and RuPaul’s longtime friend Michelle Visage officially unveiled the figure. Arriving at a studio space to see the latest figure, Visage immediately expressed her awe. “The teeth, the lips, the nails. It’s like I’m at home and with Ru!” she said. “Fans and guests will love this figure, the artists have made this so beautifully and I see Ru.”

Visage was also treated to a welcome surprise when she saw that Zaldy included her face — alongside Diana Ross and Oprah — among the favors adorning the side of the wax Ru’s new royalty-inspired dress. In a statement, Zaldy said the garment was inspired by his work with Ru creating custom looks for Drag Race. “I wanted it to be an authentic representation of what Ru wears, to make it this glamorous statement, and make it big,” he said. “This bespoke creation for Madame Tussauds London, for Ru, and for the fashion zone, is full of all the emotions that you feel when working with Ru: fun, joy and happiness.”

The new figure joins the Madame Tussauds London collection as RuPaul’s Drag Race continues to dominate the reality television space. RuPaul recently extended his streak of Emmy wins with his eighth consecutive award for outstanding host for a reality or competition program, while Drag Race took home its fifth win for outstanding reality competition program. Season 16 of RuPaul’s Drag Race is currently airing on MTV Fridays at 8 p.m. ET.
