Like Fort Lauderdale, Wilton Manors is another city in Florida that has thrived financially courtesy of the queer community – via it’s gay-owned businesses and shops, restaurants, real estate, and pulsating nightlife. They even elected their first gay mayor Justin Flippen, who, at just 41 suddenly passed away in February due to a brain aneurysm.
So how surprised was I when I happened to be scrolling through Instagram and came across an announcement from gay adult film star Antonio Biaggi (who changed his name to Melecio, BTW) that he was running for political office.
Now I know what you’re asking – what experience does Antonio, who’s known for his big dick and low hanging balls have running for City Commissioner? Well stranger things have happened, since America elected an actor by the name of Ronald Reagan in the 80s, Arnold Schwarzenegger became the Governator of California, and we currently have a former reality star pretending to be the president of the United States.
The question remains is running on an environmental platform and animal rights enough to get the community to vote for him? He says he wants to add more diversity to the Wilton Manors Commissioner’s office, but comments he made in 2017 about Beyonce and her fans may come back to haunt him.
Around the time that he opened up Hush Spa and Barber Shop in Wilton Manors (Hush Spa also has a men-only location in New York), he went on a social media tirade bashing the Lemonade singer and her fans.
“She has no talent whatsoever any black girl that has the decent Voice with a big crew of queens will do the same thing that she does,” Biaggi tweeted on Aug. 9.
Here’s what the 41-year-old said about the BeyHive:
“I’m so afraid of the beehive keep twerking and Voguing that will pay for your KFC on my way to one of my three business great day”
For someone who is currently pushing for diversity, it seems to me that the following remarks came across as femmephobic (voguing) and racist (KFC and twerking). Kudos to you for using that ginormous dick as an opportunity to open up your own businesses, but you can throw shade without resorting to tropes that not only affect POC, but queer people as well.
One’s porn past shouldn’t be held against them when running for political office, and I don’t know if he’s evolved since he tweeted those ignorant comments. I did check out his Twitter and he’s been retweeting videos and expressing his outrage in regards to what’s been going on in Minnesota. We’ll see if the following tweet and any others that social media sleuths will dig up once voting begins in November will affect his campaign or not.
