If you are a race other than white, one of the biggest complaints about the original Queer As Folk was it’s lack of diversity, something OG QAF actor Peter Paige mentioned when he recently did an interview with Jess Rothchild (check out my article on Paige revealing Billy Porter was up for the role of Emmett if you missed the interview).
It looks like the people behind the reboot heard you all loud and clear, because this cast of characters I will admit is the most diverse cast I’ve seen on a queer series in a long time.
It’s being reported that America’s Next Top Model and Dancing With The Stars winner Nyle DiMarco will guest star on the upcoming reboot. No official details on his character, but according to reports he will play a charming grad student.
The series, which is a reimagining of the Russell T. Davies classic British series will take place in New Orleans.
The cast includes Jesse James Keitel, Johnny Sibilly, Fin Argus, Ryan O’Connell, Devin Way, and Candace Grace as a diverse friend group whose lives are transformed in the aftermath of a tragedy.
Other cast members who have been announced include Kim Cattrall, Armand Fields, Benito Skinner, Chris Renfro, Ed Begley, Jr., Eric Graise, Juliette Lewis, and Sachin Bhatt.
While I’m pretty impressed with the cast so far, I just hope the show is good.
Queer As Folk premieres later this year on Peacock.
