Netflix Removes Jeffrey Dahmer Series From LGBTQ Category Following Backlash

So Netflix has removed Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story from their LGBTQ category after receiving backlash from viewers.

Netflix is no longer using the LGBTQ tag on its controversial series about deranged serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer following a furious backlash.

The streaming service has not given an official reason for dropping the tag on “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” in which Evan Peters plays the late Milwaukee cannibal who murdered and chopped up 17 men.

However, it followed several days’ worth of outrage online by disgusted viewers, many of whom tagged Netflix in their attacks.

“Why the f–k did Netflix tag the Jeffrey Dahmer documentary LGBTQ?” one person said on TikTok alongside images showing the old tag alongside others for “ominous,” “psychological” and ‘”horror.”

“I mean, I know it’s technically true, but this is not the representation we’re looking for,” the viewer, under the name Lizthelezbo, added in the now-viral post.

Others shared screenshots on Twitter, saying the series — which has outraged relatives of some of Dahmer’s victims — was flagged as of particular interest to gay, lesbian and trans viewers.

“Imagine clicking on the ‘LGBTQ’ category and this is what you get,” one person wrote of the chilling image of Peters as the cannibal.

Someone else called it “so f—ed” to be marketing the series that way. “We do not claim him !!! sick f–k.”

Another critic wrote: “IF YOU TOLD ME NETFLIX WAS PUTTING A JEFFREY DAHMER BIOPIC IN THE LGBT SECTION I WOULD LITERALLY LAUGH AT YOU WHAT TIMELINE ARE WE IN.”

Not everyone was outraged, however, with others suggesting that a key theme highlighted by the true-crime series was how homophobia may have played a part in cops failing to investigate Dahmer sooner.

“The Dahmer case is a huge part of LGBTQ history, it’s important people know he got away with so much,” one person said.

Another TikTok calling herself a “bi nurse” said: “I mean, it is something that greatly impacted the lgbtq community, right? Educational purposes?!”

Another person stressed that the show “also tells the stories of some of the men who lost their lives, as well as representation of their families.”

Netflix did not immediately respond to a request for comment early Tuesday.

I get people's grievances, but this is ridiculous. Jeffrey was a gay man who killed other men who he stalked at gay bars, bus stops, etc. Whether those who are upset about this want to accept it or not, what Jeffrey did is part of LGBTQ history.

I'm not sure if every person he murdered identified as queer, but we can't deny that homophobia doesn't only exist among straight people who attack gays. Sometimes the monster exists in our own community.
