The NAACP Image Awards aired last night, and I must say there were quite a few highlights that stood out for me.
Angela Bassett "did the thing" and won the award for Entertainer of the Year. Her Black Panther: Wakanda Forever co-star Tenoch Huerta Mejia won the Best Supporting Actor In A Motion Picture award, and Nicco Annan won the Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series for their role as Uncle Clifford on P-Valley.
I was truly moved when Dwayne Wade and Gabrielle Union won the President's Award for their charity work, and not only dedicated the award to their transgender daughter Zaya, but called out the black community for asking for equality, but excluding QPOC in the fight for equal rights.
Overall it was a great night, and I really feel that it's time that black celebrities stop looking to the Oscars, the SAG awards, and all these other mainstream awards for validation, and support the award shows created for the black community - such as the NAACP, Soul Train, etc.
