Miss Benny Slams Fuller House Co-Star For Trying To Get Queer Character Removed From Show

Miss Benny recently posted a TikTok alleging that one of her former Fuller House co-stars tried to have the queer character she was playing at the time removed from the show.

While Miss Benny didn't name names, based on a certain actor's history regarding her religious beliefs, even Helen Keller could tell you she was talking about Candace Cameron Bure.

For those of you who didn't watch the show, Benny played the character Casey – a gay friend of grown-up Kimmy Gibbler’s teenaged daughter, and the first openly gay character in Full House franchise history. Benny, who now stars in the new Netflix show Glamorous, recently came out as transgender.

“One of the Tanner sisters was very publicly… not for the girls, if that makes sense,” Benny, 24, said in a TikTok video this week. “I remember I got sat down by the writers and the studio to basically warn me how this person allegedly was trying to get the character removed and not have a queer character on the show.”

“I was also sort of warned and prepared that this person’s fan base might be encouraged to target me specifically,” she continued, although Benny did not explicitly name Bure. “The fact that this teenage actor who’s coming in to make jokes about wearing a scarf is suddenly a target from an adult is crazy to me.”

“To this day, despite working on the show every day for two weeks straight, I have only had a conversation with one of the Tanner sisters.”

Still, Benny acknowledged that she had “a really fun time actually shooting the show with all the other actors who were willing to talk to me.” She also acknowledged that her role as Casey on Fuller House “ultimately led to me being on Glamorous on Netflix.”

In a new statement to People, Cameron Bure denies the claims, writing:

““I never asked Miss Benny’s character to be removed from Fuller House and did not ask the writers, producers or studio executives to not have queer characters on the show. Fuller House has always welcomed a wide range of characters. I thought Miss Benny did a great job as ‘Casey’ on the show. We didn’t share any scenes together, so we didn’t get a chance to talk much while filming on set. I wish Miss Benny only the best.”

Candace can deny it all she wants. If she didn't hesitate to leave the Hallmark channel in November and said that neither she nor her new Great American Family network would support same sex content on their channel, then why would we believe she wouldn't try to keep Fuller House as "wholesome" as possible?

Glamorous is streaming now on Netflix.
