Media personality Funky Dineva has announced after four years he has opted not to return to Tea-GIF.
His reasoning for not renewing his contract is due to pay disparity from Fox Soul. I don't know if this is exactly what he was making doing the series, but he said when they first started out he was making $20 an episode. Once they expanded the series to five days a week the platform decided to pay them $17 an episode.
As a independent contractor occupying the social media space known as YouTube, to me the math ain't mathing, and if I took time to crunch the numbers, once I pay my agent their fee, I would have more than likely done the same as Funky.
Looking back this makes perfect sense as to why in the weeks leading up to this official announcement we were getting him on Tea-GIF and he was releasing Hot Topics on his own channel.
His shady banter will most certainly be missed on the panel, and I am quite curious to see who they will replace him with (no shade, but Al You Doin' and his uptight demeanor and Claudia Jordan aren't enough to keep me interested in watching the show).
I am here for this industry reckoning, because y'all can't keep going around paying talent nothing but crumbs while they're putting all their blood, sweat and tears into their careers.
