Throughout her 40 year career, Madonna has inspired many of her fellow music contemporaries including Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Ariana Grande, Kim Petras and Christina Aguilera, to name a few.
However one of Madonna's biggest fans recently paid homage to the queen of pop in a music video of her own, and that would be her eldest child Lourdes Leon.
Lola paid homage to her mom's hit song Frozen in the haunting visual for her song Spelling.
Frozen was the lead single from Madonna's Grammy-winning album Ray Of Light, which was released in 1998.
In the video for Spelling, you see many nods to Madonna's iconic Chris Cunningham-directed visual with Lola morphing into a black Dobermann and performing an interpretive dance beside two doppelgangers.
Lourdes took to social media to speak about her mother’s massive influence on her artistry.
“This piece is very special. It’s an homage to my mother’s timeless piece of art ‘Frozen’. That piece has come up countless times in my life, connecting the two of us,” she wrote on Instagram.
“I would be nothing without the woman who brought me into the world . I revere her, and hope that this translates.” Lourdes is Madonna’s daughter with former dancer/celebrity trainer and actor Carlos Leon.
Madonna has given the visual her seal of approval, as the pop icon shared the video on her Instagram story.
“Spelling” is the follow-up to Lourdes’ 2022 debut EP GO. The 5-song experimental electronic record included the singles “Lock&Key,” “Giovanni’s Room,” and “C*ntradiction.”
What I love about Lola is that she's not interested in following in the footsteps of her mother, but going a more mainstream route with her music. Instead she's taking a more artistic approach with her music and visuals.
If she were to go more of a safe pop route, and follow her mother's blueprint the comparisons would have been endless.
Madonna finally kicks off her Celebration Tour in London at the O2 Arena on October 14, which is also Lola's 27th birthday.
