Remember Logo, the network that was supposed to launch a plethora of queer content, but only gave us RuPaul’s Drag Race and reruns of Roseanne and The Golden Girls? Now that Drag Race is reaching a much-wider audience over at VH1, the network has pretty much sashayed away from the list of networks to tune into.
So color me surprised when I happened to come across this pilot Logo aired yesterday called Mélange. The story, which stars Morgan Fairchild (who looks like she was stung by a thousand bees) centers around the fight over ownership of an historic NYC fictional gay bar, Mélange, after its previous owner has suddenly and mysteriously died,” The show explores themes of sexuality, immigration, addiction, power, and inclusion.”
Also rounding out the cast: Scott Evans (brother of actor Chris Evans and former star of One Live To Live), Omar Sharif Jr, Kristen Alderson, Laith Ashley, Maya Days, Diana DeGarmo, David A. Gregory, Perez Hilton, Mark Indelicato, Ilene Kristen, Jessica Leccia, Alex Newell, Robert Newman, Anne Ramsay, Darnell Williams, and Pamela Winslow Kashani.
With ABC airing the special The Story of Soaps earlier this week, and with Entertainment Weekly spending May 26-29 with the cast of All My Children as a part of their #UnitedAtHome series, I’m wondering if this is the beginning of a resurgence for daytime soaps and possibly SoapNet? If the fans demand it like comic book nerds demanded the Snyder Cut of Justice League, I don’t see why soaps can’t make a comeback.
