Lizzo has found herself in hot water again with Madonna fans, as she's standing ten toes down on the fact that in her opinion, Janet Jackson is the true #QueenofPop!
The singer, who is promoting her new singles "Still Bad" and "Love In Real Life" recently appeared on the Sibling RIvalry podcast and clarified her comments regarding the Madonna vs. Janet debate.
“I have to really clear up some sh-t because people came for me on the Internet because I said Janet Jackson is the Queen of Pop. I said Janet is the Queen of Pop, and here is why…Britney Spears is doing a Janet impression – and she said it. Janet is her diva. There were no such things as ‘Pop divas’ before Janet – she was first. She was famous when Madonna was a kid watching her on TV,” she relayed to hosts Bob the Drag Queen and Monet X Change.
“It’s not because someone is better than the other, [Janet] was just first. And, she is Janet. She invented this sh-t,” Melissa relayed.
Of course after Lizzo's comments went viral, pop music stans took to social media to share their thoughts.

Another user shared the aforementioned post and added, “Lizzo is soooo lame like ????? wtf girl britney’s music stood the test of time, the kids not gonna remember your sh*t in 20 years.”

After Lizzo received a wave of backlash from Madonna fans, the singer let it be known that she does respect the "Vogue" icon's place in pop herstory.
“Madonna is the Pop icon, and I love her. And, we can’t refute her influence or what she’s done for all of the divas. She birthed a generation,” she said before reflecting on the disses from Madge fans. “I felt like I was fighting for my life because people was dragging me by my ankles.”

This isn't the first time Lizzo has labeled Janet the "Queen of Pop." Back in 2021, she tweeted that Usher is the “the king of r&b,” before returning to quote tweet the praise with more classifications.
She also labeled Michael Jackson is the King of Pop, Britney Spears as Princess of Pop, Rihanna is The Pop Princess, and Beyoncé the Queen of Music."
Nice try niece, but Madonna will always be the queen."
No one is discounting Janet's impact in the music scene, and yes, Janet was famous before Madonna via her acting career. However, before Janet took "CONTROL" of her career via her third album, Madonna had already achieved 12 number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
And let's not forget while Madonna consistently challenges herself on every last one of her world tours, Janet is still rocking the same choreography from 30 years ago. Her stage performances lack evolution.
As for Britney, she never said she was doing a Janet impersonation. She said Janet was one of her many idols, which, if you look at it all artists are inspired by an amalmation of different musicians. Janet happened to be one of them for Britney.
The only think Janet and Britney have in common is that they wear headsets when they perform, and there are some similarities in dance styles. Other than that musically they are vastly different.
