Laverne Cox Leaving E!’s Red Carpet Coverage After 3 Years: ‘I’m So Incredibly Proud’

Laverne Cox is bidding adieu to E!’s red carpet coverage.

'With an incredible amount of gratitude I've decided not to return as host of #LiveFromE's red carpet coverage,' she began in Thursday's post.

While she called the experience an 'incredible privilege,' Cox — who recently appeared on a hit TV competition show — noted that she's looking forward to exploring new career 'opportunities.'

'I'm so incredibly proud of the work we did over my three year tenure. I'd like to express my sincere thanks to everyone at @nbcuniversal, @eentertainment and @denofthievestv for your incredible support,' Cox continued.

'These moments are a reminder to me of what an incredible privilege it has been to talk to some of the world's greatest artists about their work, navigating the pressures of success, etc.

'I'm so excited to keep growing, evolving and exploring great opportunities as an actress, artist, host and speaker. I hope you'll all continue to go with me on my evolving journey,' Cox penned to her 7million followers.

To close out her post, the Orange Is The New Black star plugged her new project with Amazon Prime.

'Tune into my new comedy series 'Clean Slate' premiering on Amazon Prime February 6,' she wrote.

Along with her heartfelt words, Cox posted a reel featuring some of her favorite interview moments from the last three years.

The reel featured brief clips of her red carpet chats with stars like Andrew Garfield, Tracee Ellis Ross, Anne Hathaway, Cynthia Erivo, Steve Martin and Dua Lipa.

Cox's last hosting gig with E! Live from the Red Carpet was the 2024 Emmys, which took place on September 15 in Los Angeles.

Along with being a red carpet staple, Cox is also a decorated actress and producer.

She famously won a Daytime Emmy back in 2015 for Outstanding Special Class Special for executive producing Laverne Cox Presents: The T Word.

The win was historic as the Alabama native became the first openly transgender woman to win the coveted honor.

She's all been nominated for four Primetime Emmys for her performance in the hit Netflix series Orange Is The New Black, which ran for seven seasons on the streamer.

Her other notable TV acting credits include: Doubt (2017) and Inventing Anna (2022).

Cox has also made a new for herself in film as she recently starred in Netflix's sci-fi flick Uglies (2024) and had a memorable role in Promising Young Woman (2020).

Her latest project Clean Slate, which she co-executive produced, will soon be available to stream on Prime Video starting in February.

She stars opposite George Wallace, who plays her onscreen dad, in the upcoming comedy series co-created by Simran Baidwan and Dan Ewen.

Clean Slate follows 'Harry (Wallace), an Alabama car wash owner is surprised when his estranged child returns home after 17 years, now a determined, proud trans woman named Desiree (Cox),' as per IMDb.

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Cox recalled pitching the show to the late TV icon Norman Lear, whose production company, Act III Productions, picked it up in 2022.

'That meeting with Norman was a dream,' she said. 'It was also very intimidating pitching with Norman Lear.'

She said that Lear, who passed away in December 2023, asked her and her co-star Wallace to improvise one of the scenes from the series' pilot episode for him.

'And after that first pitch meeting, we were having coffee and debriefing, and Norman said to me, "For the next meeting, that was good... can you do it, but funny?"' Cox fondly recalled.

She told EW that the series is 'very much a tribute to the legacy of Norman Lear and tackling intense issues, but doing it in a fun way, in a way that's accessible and in a way that doesn't point a finger at you or preach to you.'
