While most events have unfortunately been cancelled this year (including Pride), many of your favorite local and mainstream drag queens have taken to social media to find creative ways to make their coins. One of my favorite legendary drag performers, the iconic dame of equal opportunity roasting Lady Bunny is giving us something to gag about when she launches her latest comedy special C#nt-agious.
If you’ve ever seen her live, especially her one-woman shows Clowns Syndrome and Trans-Jester, then you are aware of her politically incorrect style of pee your pants humor, where she mixes her unapologetic brand of insult comedy with politics and parodies of other people’s songs. And there will be plenty of that to go around, as Bun-Bun plans to parody songs by Madonna, Justin Bieber, Lizzo and RuPaul, the latter who has a COVID-19 version of her iconic Sissy That Walk song entitled Sissy That Cough. Also Drag performer/musician Christeene is set to duet with her on an updated version of Peggy Lee’s “Is That All There Is.“
“I’ve downed some special loads, but I’ve never downloaded a special!” she quips. “When your income involves audiences and dance floors packed together tightly, your income has stopped for the foreseeable future. And my wigs are too mammoth to permit me to fit onto a Facebook live video format.”
I have always loved Bunny’s twisted style of humor, because it mimics my way of thinking. Politically incorrect jokes are always valid as long as it’s done in a clever way, where not only is it shady as fuck, but it causes you to think. Bunny, the late Joan Rivers and Bianca Del Rio are three queens who have mastered that beautifully.
The best part of all of this is, tickets for the online event will cost you $9.99. Lady Bunny’s C#nt-agious, which she also co-wrote three new skits with frequent collaborator Beryl Mendelbaum premieres on Friday, June 5th at 8PM at VossEvents.com,
