After a low quality version of Kylie Minogue's upcoming single Padam Padam leaked online earlier this week (as well as the album's cover art), the singer officially revealed the cover art and album tracklisting for her sixteenth album titled Tension on Friday.
The follow-up to Disco, which she describes as “a record of euphoric, empowered dance floor bangers and sultry pop cuts” will be released to the universe on September 22.
“I started this album with an open mind and a blank page,” Minogue said of the album in a press statement. “Unlike my last two albums, there wasn’t a ‘theme’, it was about finding the heart or the fun or the fantasy of that moment and always trying to service the song. I wanted to celebrate each song’s individuality and to dive into that freedom. I would say it’s a blend of personal reflection, club abandon and melancholic high.”
Kylie has worked with a number of producers on the album with seven of the tracks being produced and co-written with her long-time collaborators, Biff Stannard and "Disco" contributor Duck Blackwell.
Word on the street is that Padam Padam was to be released sometime next week, but as of now the single doesn't have an official release.
“I loved being back in the studio with my collaborators but was also able to benefit from remote recording, which we have all got used to – my mobile studio never left my side for a year and a half!,” Minogue added. “The album is a mix of songs I have written and songs which really spoke to me. Making this album helped me navigate challenging times and celebrate the now. I hope it accompanies listeners on their own journeys and becomes part of their story.”
I am really excited for this album, but I think September 22 is way too far away to be releasing a new album with ten original tracks (10 out of 10 was released back in April).
By the time September rolls around, she'll have to release half the album as singles before it gets released. BMG may have to reconsider that September 22 release date or release a deluxe edtion with at least four additional tracks.
