The “Father Stretch My Hands” rapper recently explained that his wife Bianca Censori questioned his initial bipolar diagnosis and recommended a doctor that shared a new diagnosis.

“My wife took me because she said, ‘Something about your personality doesn’t feel like it’s bipolar, I’ve seen bipolar before,’” the 47-year-old told Justin LaBoy on The Download podcast Feb. 4. “And come to find out, it’s really a case of autism that I have.”

Kanye—who shares children North, 11, Saint, 8, Chicago, 6, and Psalm, 5, with ex-wife Kim Kardashian—has been open about his struggles with mental health, after sharing his bipolar diagnosis, following a hospitalization in 2016 when he suffered a "psychiatric emergency."

Now, the Yeezy founder says his behavior has been into perspective.

“You’re like, ‘Oh man, I’m gonna wear this [Donald] Trump hat ‘cause I just like Trump in general,” he said. “And when people tell you to not do it...and that’s my problem, when fans tell me to do my album a certain way, I’ll do it the opposite way.”

Kanye said that his diagnosis became a challenge for the people around him, as his behavior didn’t give them the space to help.

“It’s so difficult for them because this is like a grown man, you can’t tell him,” Ye said. “You can’t take control of his bank account. You can’t control what I’m saying on Twitter.”

“But a lot of what was sending me into the episodes—and it’s hard—my dad and a bunch people said, ‘You can’t leave Adidas why would you leave all that money?,’” he continued, referring to Adidas ending their relationship with him in 2022, after he made antisemitic comments. “The constant feeling of not being in control, spun me out of control.”

When asked if he’s taking medication, the “All Falls Down” rapper shared that he hasn’t, adding he doesn’t want to lose his creative spark.

“I haven’t taken the medication since I found out it wasn’t bipolar, that it wasn’t the right diagnosis,” Kanye said. “It’s finding stuff that doesn’t block the creativity, obviously that’s what I bring to the world. It’s worth the ramp up, as long as y’all get the creativity.”

Kanye’s latest interview comes after he and Bianca—who he married in 2022—turned heads as they made a surprise appearance on the 2025 Grammys red carpet where his wife walked in a sheer dress, that put her nude body on display.

Shortly after making their red carpet appearance, Kanye—who wore a simple all black ensemble for the moment—shared insight into Bianca’s eyebrow-raising look.

“Custom Courture [sic] Grammy dress for the most beautiful woman ever," he wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post. “My best friend My wife.”
