On Thursday, actor Jussie Smollett was sentenced to 150 days in jail for faking a hate crime against himself. While Jussie showed his outrage in court, and a few of his siblings also spoke out in a press conference about the verdict, many wondered what his sister Jurnee’s thoughts were on the matter.
The Lovecraft Country actress, 35, has finally broken her silence, taking to social media to show support for her brother.
Posting an image with “#FreeJussie” written in white font on top of a black background on Saturday, the Birds of Prey star began the caption of her post, writing, “Black Americans are incarcerated in state prisons at nearly five times the rate of White Americans.”
While it is true that the judicial system is not fair when it comes to how POC, particularly if you are LGBTQ+, what does this have to do with Jussie lying and wasting tax paying dollars on a hoax?
if he would have taken the L and paid the fine innthe begging instead of wanting the case to gonto trial, he wouldn’t be innthe predicament that he is in.
Then again, the judicial system needs to keep that same energy towards those white nationalists who invaded our capital, as well as those Karen’s who file false police reports against black people.
Because we’ve seen time and rime again how they either get a slap on the wrist, or a weekend behind bars whenever they break federal laws.
