Jonathan Groff and Ben Aldridge to Play Gay Couple In M Night Shyamalan Horror Film

Openly gay actors Jonathan Groff (The Matrix Ressurrections) and Ben Aldridge (Pennyworth) are set to star in M Night Shyamalan's next horror film entitled Knock at the Cabin.

Adapted from Paul Tremblay's book The Cabin at the End of The World, Groff and Eldridge play Eric and Andrew, a couple who, along with their seven-year-old daughter Wen head out on vacation to a remote cabin by the lake in New Hampshire.

Their closest neighbors are more than two miles in either direction along a rutted dirt road.

“One afternoon, as Wen catches grasshoppers in the front yard, a stranger unexpectedly appears in the driveway. Leonard is the largest man Wen has ever seen but he is young, friendly, and he wins her over almost instantly. Leonard and Wen talk and play until Leonard abruptly apologizes and tells Wen, ‘None of what’s going to happen is your fault.’ Three more strangers then arrive at the cabin carrying unidentifiable, menacing objects. As Wen sprints inside to warn her parents, Leonard calls out: ‘Your dads won’t want to let us in, Wen. But they have to. We need your help to save the world.'”

In addition to Groff and Aldrodge, the film also stars Dave Bautista, Rupert Grint, and Nikki Amuka-Bird.

The film is described as a home invasion horror film that takes place during the apocalypse.

Shyamalan will write, direct and produce the film, and will be released via Universal Pictures on February 3, 2023

While I'm a bit sketchy with M Night directing because his films have fallen more on the miss side than hits, I'm excited to see more horror films featuring gay characters in central roles, because queer audience resonate with the horror genre moreso than any other demographic.

So fingers crossed that M Night can do good by this film, since it is being adapted from an existing book.
