JLo’s UMTEENTH ROM-COM MARRY ME BOMBS AT THE BOX OFFICE

I didn’t want to be the one to say I told you so, but it should come as a shock to no one that Marry Me, the latest rom-com starring Jennifer Lopez has flopped hard at the box office.

Via Showbiz 411:

Jennifer Lopez posed the question, “Marry Me,” last night in 2,700 theaters. And the answer from the movie going audience was “No.”

Total take: $525,000. Just $194 per theater. Lopez spends that much on eyeliner.

“Marry Me” is a rom com in which JLO plays herself, a big movie and music star, who falls for Owen Wilson, a regular guy. It’s “Notting Hill” repurposed.

There have been rumors that Wilson isn’t happy with the movie. On Rotten Tomatoes, the score is a lowly 60%. Many of the “fresh” tomatoes are attached to largely negative reviews. The reviewer for the moribund Parade magazine wrote: “Sure, it all feels very 2006 but in a way that’s not so much dated as refreshing, retro.” That’s considered a positive review.

Quiet as it’s kept this movie had so many things going against it. Does anyone believe Owen Wilson as a leading man (Luke Wilson is hotter)?

Also JLo getting all meta is not something I would pay close to $20 to see on the big screen (thank god it’s been simultaneously released on Peacock), and I also felt they gave away the whole movie in the trailer.

And don’t get me started on Maluma. While he may be great to look at, I’ve always felt he plays it safe as a musician, and I’m sure like his music, his acting was basic AF.

I will keep saying this until I’m blue in the face. I’m going to need for JLo to stop being afraid of gettingndown and dirty whennit comes to the roles she chooses, or the type of music she puts out.

I’ve always loved JLo when she stars in edgier fare like Out of Sight, Shades of Blue, and U-Turn. I hope she gets back into that instead of continuing to make corny rom-coms.

I saw recently on The View that she said her fans love seeing her in rom-coms, but if no one is going to the movies to see them, then maybe you should stop listening to your fans.

On a positive note, I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what she’ll bring to the role of an assassin in the Netflix film The Mother, which comes out later this year.
