Jennifer Lopez, 55, was being interviewed by Clayton Davis, Variety’s senior awards editor, Sunday after a screening of her sports drama “Unstoppable” when he made a random comment about her age.
“I can’t believe it’s been 30 years since ‘Selena,’ ” he said in a clip shared by TMZ, referencing her 1997 role in the biopic about the late Mexican-American singer Selena Quintanilla-Pérez.
Davis then took a moment to reflect on the future and brought up one minor detail that J.Lo’s fans didn’t seem to appreciate.
“I can’t believe that in 30 years we’re going to do a retrospective of this, and you will be 60 by then, which is…” the editor continued as the singer replied, “Wow.”
Davis didn’t stop there, joking that Lopez was “getting up there” in age, which elicited gasps from the audience.
The future is bright for Lopez who took a moment to share how working on “Unstoppable” has shaped who she is.
“I honestly feel that my creativity and who I am as an artist is like you said…,” she noted. “I also feel that this for me, was another kind of level of going deeper into who I am as a person or as an artist. And these type of roles change you.”
Lopez has had quite the journey this year as she filed for divorce from Ben Affleck in August on what would have been the two-year anniversary of their second wedding ceremony.
“‘They come to you at times in your life when you need them, and they help you grow and they heal you in a way,” she continued.
However, “Unstoppable” was produced by Affleck, 52, through his production company Artists Equity.
Lopez and Affleck tied the knot in July 2022 at the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas before saying “I do” for a second time at Affleck’s estate in Riceboro, Georgia, the following month.
However, fans will remember that this is the second go around for the former couple, who tried to make a romance work in the early aughts.
Affleck and Lopez started dating in 2002 and announced their breakup in 2004. Both celebs married and had kids with other people but ultimately rekindled their flame in 2021.
After calling off their first engagement, Lopez confessed she felt like she “was going to die” and went into an 18-year “spiral.”
But their latest try was supposed to be different, with Affleck even engraving a special meaning into her engagement ring, which was estimated to be worth “well over $5 million.”
Shortly after reports of their split surfaced, sources spoke about how hard Lopez allegedly tried to make things work with Affleck the second time.
A source told People that Lopez “did spend a lot of time making sure Ben was happy and had everything he needed.”
The insider also claimed that Affleck had “erratic mood swings,” which allegedly contributed to their split.
“The truth is there was a great deal of love but also unfortunately what became clear were Ben’s erratic mood swings that he couldn’t hide from the press, as much as he tried to,” the insider claimed. “You could see the erratic behavior, the giant mood swings.”
“But I would not be so bold to say there isn’t love — of course there is,” the source added. “The world was rooting for them, but who he said he was and who he turned out to be were two different people.”
