"AND ACTION!!" reads a post accompanying a photo of creator Alice Oseman holding up a rainbow clapperboard. "Heartstopper season 3 is officially in production."
Season 2 of Heartstopper ended with Nick very nearly telling Charlie that he loved him, with Charlie drafting an 'I love you' text to Nick, but hovering above the send button as the show cut to credits.
Going by the novels, season 3 should see the couple go off to college. Oseman has previously teased that there's going to be a focus on the many other characters viewers have grown to love over the first two seasons.
"I'm always very committed to preserving what is in the comics and making sure all the big, exciting moments are in the show, but honestly, there is just so much extra space around that to do whatever we want," they said.
"Now that we've got seasons one and two, we've had so much development for the supporting cast: Tao, Elle, Tara, Isaac, even new characters like Imogen. There's so much new stuff that gives us so much to play with in season 3."
Not every cast member will be back for season 3, as Sebastian Croft won't be returning after Ben Hope's character arc concluded at the end of season 2.
"I am so proud and honoured that Sebastian has been a part of Heartstopper," Oseman said. "I know that he'll go on to do incredible things, and I will be cheering from the sidelines all the way."
