HBO Max Cancels Voguing Competition Series Legendary After Three Seasons

Could this be the end of Legendary?

Thejasminebrand is exclusively reporting that when HBO Max and Discovery+ merge into a new streaming service by summer, 2023, the Ballroom series may end up as one of the service's casualties.

Ever since David Zaslav took over the reins, HBO Max’s parent company Warner Bros. Discovery has already begun removing content. For example, Warner removed six streaming-only movies from HBO Max recently, including Seth Rogen’s An American Pickle and Melissa McCarthy’s Superintelligence.

Warner also pulled the plug on their Batgirl film, even though the film had already been shot and was in post-production with a budget of $90 million.

With the removal of content, popular shows like ‘Legendary‘ may get the boot along with other fan favorites.

For those of you who have been living under a rock, ‘Legendary’ is a voguing reality competition series, that explores the world of ballroom culture. It premiered on HBO Max on May 27, 2020. The series follows LGBT house members—predominantly from eight to ten houses—as they navigate through nine balls (dancing/voguing/walking events), with a $100,000 prize for the winning house. The series was previously praised by GLAAD for featuring queer and trans artists “from the New York ballroom scene.”

To date, there have been 3 seasons of ‘Legendary’ with no word yet if it will be renewed for a 4th. Seasons 1 and 2 of the series are currently available to stream on HBO Max.

So while there is no official word that the show has officially been canceled, I sincerely hope Legendary is spared the Zaslav ax, because it is definitely a show that is needed, especially a show that gives opportunities for QPOC to shine.
