Gayle King's sticking up for Justin Timberlake ... saying he's a responsible, upstanding dude who just made a one-off bad decision when he allegedly chose to drink and drive.

In Wednesday’s episode of CBS Mornings, King addressed the singer's drunk driving charge. In discussion with her co-anchors, the 69-year-old journalist defended Timberlake’s character.
“Justin Timberlake is a really, really great guy,” she began. “Listen, this is clearly a mistake — I bet nobody knows it more than he.”
When Nate Burleson pointed out that this was a very “stupid mistake,” King agreed, adding that Timberlake “knows that.”
“He's not an irresponsible person, he's not reckless, he's not careless,” she said. “Clearly this is not a good thing but he knows that.”
She then referenced Billy Joel’s reaction to the incident, noting she appreciated the way he responded. “I loved when they stopped Billy Joel and he said, ‘Wait, not everybody judge at this particular time,’” she said.
Still, King maintained that even though “it’s alleged,” the reports about “what the officers saw, it’s not good.” She added with all the resources available, no one should ever drive while intoxicated.
“Driving drunk, there is never any excuse for that ever,” she said.
Video of Gayle King’s statement quickly spread across social media, sparking a wave of criticism from many users.

In the early hours of June 18, the “Mirrors” singer, 43, was arrested while driving from the American Hotel to a friend’s house in Sag Harbor. He refused a breathalyzer and was cited for failure to maintain his lane and for running a stop sign, and arrested for a DWI.
He was arraigned and released later that day with an order to return July 26 to face his charges.
Police released a statement about the sequence of events, saying: "On June 18, 2024, at 12:37 AM, Justin R. Timberlake, age 43, of Tennessee, was observed operating a 2025 BMW southbound on Madison Street, failing to stop at a duly posted stop sign and failing to maintain his lane of travel."
It continued: "A traffic stop was initiated by a Police Officer from the Sag Harbor Village Police Department and upon investigation it was determined that Mr. Timberlake was operating his vehicle in an intoxicated condition."
On Wednesday, June 19, his attorney Edward Burke Jr. released a statement obtained by PEOPLE: "Mr. Burke looks forward to vigorously defending Mr. Timberlake against these allegations,” it read. “He will have a lot to say at the appropriate time. He is currently awaiting full discovery from the DA’s office."
Now this is exactly why people like Justin will never learn their lesson when you have enablers like Gayle King defending his actions. The worst part of if all was that none of her fellow panelists during the topic didn't even bother pushing back on what she said.
You may have interviewed this man, and may have even rubbed elbows with him out at A-list celebrity gatherings. However, you don't know this man, and last I checked, driving while intoxicated is irresponsible, reckless and careless -- all of the things you had the absolute gall to say on live television that he's not.
She may want to turn a blind eye and only count this DWI as his "mistake," but we the people have been keeping track of the fact that JT has never taken responsibility for his actions, such as "Nipplegate," the allegations mentioned in Britney's memoir, the subs he's thrown at Britney via award shows, his stage shows and in his music, and let's not forget the multiple times he's been caught stepping out on the women he's been in relationships with.
I saw some people in the comments on a few IG blogs like The Neighborhood Talk and Hollywood Unlocked ask, "would she go this hard to defend someone like JT if he were black?"
I don't know her heart, but I will say she probably would defend someone black if someone like Jay Z were caught up in a similar situation. Then again this is the same lady that talked shit about Kobe Bryant, and defended Morgan Wallen when it was revealed he's a racist drunken mess.
At the end of the day Justin is a grown ass 43-year-old man. He should know better to get pissy drunk and then get behind the wheel. He could have hurt himself and possibly others with his lack of judgement.
Shame on you Gayle for enabling his behavior on live TV no less, and basically shucking and jiving for him like you're his lawyer just makes you look pathetic.
How about you stick to what you do know -- like why your scissor sister Oprah had her stomach issues last week to the point that she had things coming out the front end and the back end.
