First ‘A Quiet Place: Day One’ Trailer Reveals How It All Began

The first trailer for “A Quiet Place: Day One” reveals a horrifying new entry in the thriller franchise originated by filmmaker John Krasinski.

The upcoming movie from director Michael Sarnoski, who made his acclaimed debut with Pig in 2021, is the latest entry in the A Quiet Place horror franchise established by John Krasinski. A prequel spinoff, Day One will take the series back to the start of the alien invasion and focus on a new set of characters, played by Lupita Nyong'o, Joseph Quinn, and Alex Wolff.

Now, Paramount Pictures has released a trailer and poster ahead of A Quiet Place: Day One's release date on June 28, 2024. Check it out below:

There are only two major sequences of the movie showcased in the new trailer, but they are packed with information. They already present a major expansion on the apocalyptic Day One scenario that was explored during the extended opening sequence of A Quiet Place Part II. That sequence showed how the invasion affected the town of Millbrook, New York, so placing the action on a busy street in the city allows for much more thorough and high-octane mayhem.

While further trailers will likely officially confirm more details about the characters and story at the center of the movie, it seems possible that Lupita Nyong'o's A Quiet Place: Day One character Sam has a speech disability. She doesn't speak a single word over the course of the trailer. While that may be an artistic choice, highlighting the quietness at the center of the movie's premise, it could also be an instance of the Quiet Place franchise centering characters with various disabilities and differences, especially those that present an advantage in the new world.

The A Quiet Place: Day One trailer also offers a first look at the returning Quiet Place character Man on Island (Djimon Hounsou). The ill-fated character was last seen in A Quiet Place Part II, where he was the leader of a colony of survivors on an island off the East coast. The character is now seen protecting Sam in a sequence that seems to take place shortly after the street attack, which likely means that the movie will begin with him in the city and follow him arriving at the island at some point, either with or without Sam.

The trailer opens on Day 471 of the apocalypse, tracking through various days in which the Abbott family (the central characters of the first two movies) attempt to survive life surrounded by alien monsters who attack if sound is made. Then the timer ominously ticks back to Day 1, in which flaming debris falls from the sky over a New York City street, plunging the city into chaos. Below, check out the new poster:

I love post apocalyptic horror films like The Quiet Place films, as well as I Am Legend, The Last of Us, 28 Days Later and the Dawn of the Dead remake. I love Lupita as well, so like the previous films I will most definitely be watching A Quiet Place Year One in theaters.
