Vin Diesel has given fans an exciting update on the eleventh Fast & Furious movie.
Fast & Furious 11 seemingly has a new writer according to the latest update from Vin Diesel, who teased just how major this next entry is going to be. The upcoming Fast & Furious 11 is going to be a direct sequel to Fast X, which introduced Dante Reyes (Jason Momoa) as the biggest villain Dom Toretto (Diesel) and his family have had to face so far. The new movie is set for release in 2026, and was announced with writers Oren Uziel (The Cloverfield Paradox) and Christina Hodson (The Flash) attached.
However, Diesel took to Instagram to talk about Fast & Furious 11, seemingly confirming that the sequel is going to be written by Zach Dean instead of Uziel and Hodson.
The image shows the actor reminiscing about his time working with Paul Walker, who died prior to the release of Furious 7, while mentioning Dean as the writer. He previously worked on the story for Fast X, and is now seemingly going to have an even greater role in the sequel's production than expected.
Fast X ended on a massive cliffhanger, with Aimes (Alan Ritchson) revealed to be a double agent working with Dante, using a rocket launcher to destroy a helicopter with several important characters inside. The Fast X post-credits scene also teased Dwayne Johnson's return as Hobbs, setting the stage for his own entry in the cinematic universe. Because of how many more action-packed thrills the Fast Saga is going to be tackling, it will require plenty of talent to make it all come to fruition.
If Uziel and Hodson really aren't writing Fast & Furious 11 anymore, then it could result in some unexpected story developments that are in line with a different vision of the sequel. At the same time, though, Dean's experience working on Fast X's story means he's a perfect candidate to give Dom's family a proper sendoff in their biggest battle ever. The writer is also working on an untitled standalone movie, meaning he's aware of where the franchise goes after the Fast Saga's end. This would make him perfect for saying farewell to the beloved cast.
In the meantime, though, the franchise also needs to resolve the storyline set up regarding Hobbs and Reyes' spinoff, which was originally supposed to be a bridge to the final movie. Given the possible writer change for Fast & Furious 11, though, it appears the biggest focus now is ending the story of the family on a high note. With Dean possibly taking the reins on the next movie in the franchise, it remains to be seen how this might impact the story's forthcoming conclusion.
