Stranger Things Season 5 has been long in development, as it has been postponed due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes, but there's a new exciting update about the Netflix fan-favorite show. According to DiscussingFilm on X, the fifth and final season of Stranger Things has begun filming, which, initially, was supposed to start filming in June 2023, according to lead actor David Harbour.

Given Stranger Things season 4's explosive ending, the audience would want to find out what's going to happen in Hawkins, as the Upside Down has spilled into the real world, posing a huge threat to Will, Eleven, Nancy, and the rest of the characters.

However, after the news that the final outing had started filming, fans of the series started asking to kill off Will in the first episodes. It all comes down to actor Noah Schnapp, who plays Will Byers, as the actor faced backlash after one of his posts was deemed Islamophobic. The actor allegedly liked a post on social media that featured "pro-Hamas college students." Another video of him surfaced showing him surrounded by friends holding stickers that read "Zionism is sexy."

Schnapp, who is Jewish-American and openly gay, released a statement on social media saying he wants "peace for both Palestinians and Israelis." His comments made his stance clear, as he added "you either stand with Israel or you stand with terrorism." Because of his controversies, some fans are calling for Will's death at the beginning of Season 5. Others are going as far as calling for a boycott of Stranger Things altogether if Schnapp continues to be a part of the show.

Season 5 will surely be fast-paced, given Season 4's finale, and will have to touch upon Dustin's grief, Max's coma, and Vecna himself. That means that the final outing will leave few chances for the characters to catch their breath. However, since it's the final chapter of the beloved series, which premiered in 2016, it will surely hold some emotional moments as it ties the character's final arcs.

Stranger Things Season 5 will reunite Schnapp with Winona Ryder (Joyce), David Habour (Jim Hopper), Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven), Finn Wolfhard (Mike), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas), Sadie Sink (Max), Natalia Dyer (Nancy), Charlie Heaton (Jonathan), Joe Keery (Steve), Maya Hawke (Robin), and Priah Ferguson (Erica). As for newcomers, Linda Hamilton will join the Netflix show for its last installment. However, when it comes to fan-favorite character Eddie, played by Joseph Quinn, there's no confirmation on whether he'll make a comeback.
