The FX comedy series “English Teacher” has been renewed for Season 2. The 10-episode installment is expected to premiere in 2025.

“‘English Teacher’ was one of the most critically acclaimed new shows of 2024 and we are grateful to the producers, writers, cast, directors and crew for the show’s creative excellence,” Nick Grad, president of FX Entertainment, said in a Friday statement. “We look forward to the new season.”

Created by Brian Jordan Alvarez, “English Teacher” follows Evan Marquez, a high school teacher in Austin, Texas. Most of the series revolves around Evan grandstanding, often about his liberal beliefs, only to be defeated time and time again by his own ego and short-sightedness. As he navigates his relationships with his friends, co-workers, students and on-again, off-again boyfriend, the series asks, “Can you really be your full self at your job?”

In addition to Alvarez, “English Teacher” stars Stephanie Koenig, Enrico Colantoni, Sean Patton and Carmen Christopher. The comedy is executive produced by Alvarez, Paul Simms, Jonathan Krisel, Dave King, Kathryn Dean, Jake Bender and Zach Dunn. “English Teacher” is produced by FX Productions.

Despite the glowing reception “English Teacher” received from critics, many believed the show’s future was up in the air due an article that was published by Vulture in December. In the article, Alvarez’s friend and former co-star Jon Ebeling claimed that he was sexually assaulted by Alvarez on two occasions. The first time happened under the guise of a hookup in 2015, and the other alleged incident occurred in 2016 on the set of a project where Alvarez was also the director.

For his part, the FX creator and star has argued against Ebeling’s account, calling the sexual encounters between them consensual.

“Brian Jordan Alvarez’s interactions with Jon Ebeling were always entirely consensual – as numerous witnesses have attested. Indeed, in 2018, two years after this alleged incident, Mr. Ebeling himself unambiguously said as much on tape,” a spokesperson for Alvarez told TheWrap. That same spokesperson called the New York Magazine piece “reckless” and stated that “numerous media outlets declined to print [Ebeling’s] outrageous claims.”

“English Teacher” Season 1 is available to stream on Hulu.
