Now well into it's fourth season, Drag Race UK has come under fire from fans over an error made on the show that they're deeming racist.
What had happened was, following a social media clip where Dakota Shiffer was eliminated (you know the episode where it wasn't explained why Ru only appeared in half the episode, but Michelle ended up filling in during the elimination), she was asked who she had grown closest to while filming the show, and she said Starlet, Baby and Danny Beard.
However, when Baby was mentioned a picture of Black Peppa appeared instead. On Monday (November 7), the UK team took to social media to apologize for the "mistake."
“We have sincerely apologised to both Baby and Black Peppa and we also want to extend our heartfelt apologies to anyone else that this post offended,” their tweet read.
“As soon as the mistake was spotted, the post in question was removed from all of our platforms,” the statement continued. “Once again, our sincerest apologies.”
However Baby, who came in eighth place wasn't having it.
Black Peppa piggybacked off of Baby's statement with the following tweet:
Responding to another tweet that suggested content may pass through numerous people’s approval, Baby stated: “It’s just crazy to me because they would never confuse Danny for Pixie or Dakota for Starlet…”
Canada’s Drag Race Season 3 star, Bombae chimed in with her two cents, tweeting: “I hope that twink was fired.”
Some fans of the show also called out the racist mix-up.
Drag Race UK should know better, especially since Baby and Black Peppa are the only two black queens competing this season. I don't think chalking it up as an honest mistake is enough, especially since the series is notorious for not really addressing the racist underbelly of this series, be it from some of the competing queens or the fans.
