Drag Race legend Detox publicly came out as trans in the most epic way.
The beloved talent revealed the exciting news on 21 August while she and fellow Drag Race alum Willam performed their track ‘Chow Down (at Chick-fil-A) at the DNC (Drag Night Chicago).
In a TikTok documenting the event, Detox is heard switching the lyric “I’m a top” to ‘I’m trans now,” which resulted in applause from the audience members.
While the Drag Race season five star refrained from sharing further details about her journey, she did leave a comment on the aforementioned video: “Cat’s outta the bag!”
It didn’t take long for fans to flock to social media to shower Detox with supportive comments.
One person on X, formerly known as Twitter, wrote: “Detox has officially come out as trans! I love this so much, congratulations to her, that’s so amazing!”
Another fan in the video’s comment section echoed similar sentiments, writing: “I feel like TikTok can read my mind at this point. I was just wondering how Detox was and thinking about this song.”
A third fan on Reddit added: “I absolutely adore Detox and am so happy for her. One of my favorite memories involves seeing her perform.”
Detox joins the beautiful list of Drag Race talent that have publically come out as trans.
Other iconic queens that have recently opened up about their gender identity include Adore Delano, Jade Jolie, Farrah Moan, Madame LaQueer, Kitty Space, Amanda Tori Meating, Eureka, Willow Pill, Jasmine Kennedie, Bosco, Amethyst, and Gigi Goode.
Detox’s heartwarming life update comes a few weeks after she addressed her future with the Drag Race franchise.
While attending a viewing party for All Stars 9 at Roscoe’s Tavern, Chicago, the beloved performer said: “Honestly, even if there were [eliminations], I have an itch. I do, and I haven’t had it in so long.
“I do have a little bit of an inch, but also – I was gonna say this earlier – it’s the first time we’ve seen Roxxxy without Rolaskatox on the show, and that excites me.”
However, following All Stars 9’s grand finale, Detox revealed that she no longer had the “itch to return to the competition.
I actually knew that Detox had been privately transitioning for the past couple of years, but because it's not my place to out her I kept that tea to myself.
I'm just happy that Detox can finally live her truth fully, and come out on her own terms before people started to clock her tea, and publicly start asking her if she was trans.
