It looks like da gorls are fighting before the show has even aired, because one of the cast mates of the upcoming gay reality show Real Friends of WeHo is calling out the show for not being as "real" as they claim to be.
Before we get to the tea, Real Friends of WeHo will focus on the lives of celebrity stylist Brad Goreski, choreographer and singer Todrick Hall, actor Curtis Hamilton, CEO of Buttah Skincare Dorión Renaud, TV host and business owner Jaymes Vaughan (who is also the husband of Mean Girls and Hallmark Channel actor Jonathan Bennett), and digital entrepreneur Joey Zauzig.
According to the show's official logline, MTV's “The Real Friends of WeHo is an unfiltered and honest look at a select group of friends living, loving, and pursuing their passions in the West Hollywood community. Consisting of some of Hollywood’s most influential and successful LGBTQ+ celebrities, personalities, and entrepreneurs, this revealing and witty new ensemble docuseries provides an up close and personal glimpse into their lives as they perform in front of crowds of thousands, make high-stakes business deals, celebrate important life milestones, work the red carpet, and reveal their most intimate truths to family and friends. In a town and community where image and status are everything, they’re ready to pull back the Hollywood curtain and reveal their most authentic selves not just to one another but the world.”
Speaking of Renaud, he posted in his IG stories and Twitter that the show is in fact...not real.
I thought everyone pretty much knew that reality shows are just overproduced, improvised television?
He's not the only one going off on the series. Actor-model-influencer Chris Salvatore, best known for his role in the Eating Out films took to Twitter to claim that he was fired from the show after three cast members (that he didn't name, BTW) refused to film with him.
Here's what he tweeted:
Deadline is also reporting that RuPaul's Drag Race will be cutting back to one hour, so they can use the existing hit franchise to launch The Real Friends of WeHo.
Being that I'm in media, I'll watch the first episode out of sheer curiosity, since I always give queer-based shows a chance.
However, I was reading a lot of the comments online, and I have to say people were trashing the hell out of this show.
After Deadline revealed that MTV would be cutting Drag Race down to an hour as a way to hype up their new gay series, some of the Drag Race girls took to Twitter to express their disgust.
Some were saying the series rips off a lot of the queer-based YouTube reality shows like The Come Up, Chasing Reality and Real Hot Boys of Hollywood. Fans were really trashing the series because Todrick Hall is attached to it.
I did hear it's basically a revamp of the Logo series The A-List, they just changed the name of the show. Regardless of how the show came to be, I just hope the door can open a little wider for more queer-based content (reality and scripted) to get on a mainstream network.
‘The Real Friends of WeHo’ is set to premiere on Friday, January 20 at 9 p.m. ET/PT following ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race.’
