Fox News isn't the only "news network" undergoing their own Red Weddding. After 17 years, Don Lemon announced that he has been fired from CNN.

Here's what he wrote on Twitter:

“I was informed this morning by my agent that I have been terminated by CNN. I am stunned. After 17 years at CNN I would have thought that someone in management would have had the decency to tell me directly. At no time was I ever given any indication that I would not be able to continue to do the work I have loved at the network. It is clear that there are some larger issues at play. With that said, I want to thank my colleagues and the many teams I have worked with for an incredible run. They are the most talented journalists in the business, and I wish them all the best.”

CNN confirmed the news as well:

CNN also released a tweet debunking Don's claims, saying that he refused to meet with management before they ended up firing him:

“Don Lemon’s statement about this morning’s events is inaccurate. He was offered an opportunity to meet with management but instead released a statement on Twitter.”

Someone's clearly lying, and I tend to believe Don over CNN's BS statement.

I truly believe with CNN cleaning house, and because CNN's ratings have been in the toilet for quite sometime, Don is clearly being scapegoated. Shouldn't Chris Licht, CEO of CNN be the one who gets the pink slip since he's the one making all the executive decisions at the network? How does the talent get the blame?

Quite frankly, the writing's been on the wall with Don for quite sometime, with the network leaking anti-Don content to the press (Radar Online for example), most recently his explosive interview with Vivek Ramaswamy as an attempt to discredit him.

I also think the Variety expose where he was put on blast for having a history of demeaning his female colleagues also did him in.

I'm not saying Don is a saint. I've heard he can be a bit of a prick behind the scenes. In my opinion with the old heads at CNN and Fox News not willing to evolve with the times (meaning people are gravitating towards social media programming to get their news), and panicking because their ratings are in the toilet, they had to make an example out of Don.

17 years at the same company I feel Don got a little too comfortable with his job. I always say never get too comfortable at a job, because you never know when your day will come regardless of your popularity.

I honestly don't think Don's firing will not boost ratings for the network, and I also don't think giving Gayle King and Charles Barkley their own show will help either.
