If the timing of this year’s Critics Choice Awards strikes you as odd, you’re right: Most major awards shows are held on Sunday evenings. But after two postponements because of the Los Angeles wildfires, the ceremony finally came to rest on a Friday in early February.

Hollywood descended upon the Barker Hangar at Santa Monica Airport in Los Angeles tonight for the 30th Critics Choice Awards, an annual celebration honoring excellence in film and television. Chelsea Handler returned to host the awards show, renowned for its predictive accuracy, often foreshadowing Academy Award nominations.

Nominees and guests included Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, Adrien Brody, Jessica Gunning, Lupita Nyong’o, Skye P. Marshall, Kathy Bates, Jeff Goldblum, Kathryn Hahn, Colin Farrell, Edwin Hodge, Aldis Hodge, Kali Reis, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Colman Domingo, Denis Villeneuve, Cristin Milioti, Ewan McGregor, Harvey Guillén and Myha’la Herrold who all walked the red carpet.

Anora won Best Picture, while Emilia Pérez, The Substance and Wicked each took home three trophies overall in the film categories. Emilia Pérez won Best Foreign Language Film, Best Supporting Actress for Zoe Saldaña, and Best Song for “El Mal”. The Substance won Best Actress for Demi Moore, Best Original Screenplay for Coralie Fargeat, and Best Hair and Makeup for Stéphanie Guillon, Frédérique Arguello, and Pierre-Olivier Persin. Wicked won Best Director for Jon M. Chu, Best Production Design for Nathan Crowley and Lee Sandales, and Best Costume Design for Paul Tazewell.

Shōgun led in the series categories, earning four awards including Best Drama Series, Best Actor in a Drama Series for Hiroyuki Sanada, Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for Tadanobu Asano, and Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for Moeka Hoshi. Hacks followed with three wins, earning Best Comedy Series, Best Actress in a Comedy Series for Jean Smart, and Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Hannah Einbinder.

Conclave and Wicked lead this year’s film contenders, earning 11 nominations each and Dune: Part Two and Emilia Pérez followed closely behind with 10 nods apiece, including Best Picture nominations for both films. Rounding out the Best Picture category are A Complete Unknown, Anora, The Brutalist, Nickel Boys, Sing Sing, and The Substance.

The show will also be available to stream the next day on Peacock. There will no longer be a “Live from E!: Critics Choice Awards” two-hour red carpet special ahead of the telecast. The awards show was previously postponed due to the devastating fires in Los Angeles.
