Buffy The Vampire Slayer Reboot Put On Pause

After years of being in development, we finally have an update on the reboot of 90s TV hit Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

A little over four years ago, it was first announced that a Buffy reboot was in development with Monica Owusu-Breen (Lost, Alias, Midnight, Texas) tapped to be writer, executive producer and showrunner. I had also heard that the new Buffy would be black (similar to the very first slayer).

Now comes word via The Hollywood Reporter's TV's Top 5 Podcast that according to executive producer Gail Berman the project is 'on pause,' which is Hollywood speak for industry purgatory.

The original Buffy, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, debuted in 1997 on The WB and ran for seven seasons, jumping to UPN for its final two. It has since become a cultural touchstone and cult favorite among TV fans.

I wonder if the pausation has anything to do with several actors speaking out against Buffy creator Joss Whedon, who has been accused of harassing actors Charisma Carpenter and Michelle Trachtenberg on set.

Even though the series has been put on pause, I would really like to see a new take on the character.
