Broadway's Chicago Sees Ticket Sales Boost With Jinkx Monsoon

It's being reported that Chicago has seen an uptick in ticket sales ever since RuPaul's Drag Race season 5 and All Stars 7 winner Jinkx Monsoon has come on board to play Matron Mama Morton.

According to Playbill, since Monsoon joined the long-running musical, they've been consistently "bringing in standing-room-only crowds."

“Two-time RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Jinkx Monsoon is bringing in crowds (she calls them ‘drag happy’ crowds) at Broadway’s Chicago, which played to standing room only last week. Monsoon joined the company as Matron ‘Mama’ Morton last month, and the show’s box office has seen a notable uptick with her onstage. The long-running Kander and Ebb revival filled 100.51% of seats at the Ambassador, making it the week’s top performer in terms of capacity percentage. Combined with a respectable $797,240.18 at the box office, it looks like when you’re good to Jinkx, Jinkx is good to Broadway.”

This is not the time the Chicago has cast members of the queer industry entertainment for their stage production. Pose star Angelica Ross was cast in the role of Roxie Hart just last year.

Secure your tickets, because Jinkx will be performing in Chicago from January 16 through March 12 at the Ambassador Theatre in New York City.

It's pretty evident that with Drag Race ushering d rag queens into the mainstream, they are definitely bringing in the coins, which means maybe it's time for Broadway to start putting some money behind some original shows with drag queens as the headliners.
