RuPaul's Drag Race alums Bob The Drag Queen and Monet X Change finally broke their silence regarding the sexual assault allegations against former Drag Race queen Shangela on the latest episode of their podcast Sibling Rivalry.
It all started when on the latest episode, titled The One About Diddy, Bob and Monét were discussing all the allegations surrounding disgraced music mogul Diddy, when the queens becan to pivot and weigh in on the allegations surrounding Shangela.
"Some people have taken my silence as some form of allyship,” Bob explained. “Someone even accused me of quote unquote 'working overtime to silence victims,' which seems really wild to me personally, a really wild accusation.”
Bob said that the only reason she stayed silent about the issue is because she “did not know what was going on” and “did not want to spread rumors.” She also said that she stands with the victims.
“The six people is incredibly damning and I certainly hope these people the justice that they need,” Bob said. “I can't even imagine what it's like to see someone who did something like that to you on TV getting their 10s or dancing in the club next to you.”
Monét then interjected, saying that people had to watch Pierce “foxtrotting and box stepping on ABC’s Dancing With The Stars” around the time the allegations surfaced.
“I can’t even imagine what it’s like to see a person who did something like that to you on TV getting their 10s or dancing in the club next to you,” Bob said.
Bob said that she doesn’t want anyone to think that the reason they didn’t speak up until now meant that she was blindly supporting Shangela. “But also people jump to a lot of conclusions on the internet which I understand for them, but it doesn't always make a ton of sense, but sometimes when we’re getting emotional we don’t always make the most sense.”
For those who need a memory refresher, in a Rolling Stone investigation released in March of this year, five people alleged that Pierce had sexually assaulted or attempted to assault them. All of the accusers said they were between the ages of 18 and 23 when the alleged assaults took place, describing a pattern of being too inebriated to consent to sex when Pierce first approached them, followed by continuing advances after saying no. That investigation followed a May 2023 lawsuit from Daniel McGarrigle, a former assistant Drag Race and production assistant on HBO’s We’re Here, that was settled and dismissed in February of this year, as Deadline reported.
The Rolling Stone article that detailed five additional alleged sexual assault cases was published in March 2024, but no further lawsuits have been brought forward.
However, last month adult film star Dakota Payne took to his Instagram to reveal he was also sexually assaulted by Shangela.
